Acting/Yoga Similarity

I have a blog discussing art, acting and what it means to be an artist. I wanted to share a few quotes. Stanislavsky and Sanford Meisner were two of the greatest acting teachers. You can see the similarity between the art of acting and yoga…interesting.

Konstantin Stanislavsky:

"Love the art in yourself, not yourself in the art"

"What is important to me is not the truth outside myself, but the truth within myself."

"The greatest wisdom is to realize one's lack of it"

Sanford Meisner:

"Every little moment has a meaning all its own."

"Stay in the moment."

"Live fully - moment to moment- that is reality."

"Listen, observe, Listen, really look, Listen, concentrate, Listen."

"Act before you think - your instincts are more honest than your thoughts. "

"An ounce of behavior is worth a pound of words."

"FIND IN YOURSELF THOSE HUMAN THINGS WHICH ARE UNIVERSAL."

The following quotes are form the author of “The Artist’s Way”, Julia Cameron

"Creativity - like human life itself - begins in darkness. "

"I have learned, as a rule of thumb, never to ask whether you can do something. Say, instead, that you are doing it. Then fasten your seat belt. The most remarkable things follow."

"Mystery is at the heart of creativity. That, and surprise."

"Life is a creative endeavor. It is active, not passive. We are the yeast that leavens our lives into rich, fully baked loaves. When we experience our lives as flat and lackluster, it is our consciousness that is at fault. We hold the inner key that turns our lives from thankless to fruitful. That key is "Blessing.'"

"Perfectionism is not a quest for the best. It is a pursuit of the worst in ourselves, the part that tells us that nothing we do will ever be good enough - that we should try again."

"The creative process is a process of surrender, not control."
